While Enjoying Detroit’s Annual PGA TOUR Event
· $30 from each “Golf and Give” ticket purchase goes directly to nonprofit organizations
· Rocket Mortgage Classic returns to Detroit Golf Club for its fifth year June 27-July 2
DETROIT (May 16, 2023) – The Rocket Mortgage Classic today announced the launch of “Golf and Give” – a new fundraising program to support local nonprofits – making it easy for golf fans to contribute to their favorite charitable organizations. Golf and Give enables nonprofits throughout Michigan to sell grounds tickets to the Rocket Mortgage Classic, with $30 from each ticket purchase directly supporting their mission.
The Rocket Mortgage Classic is Detroit’s only PGA TOUR event and returns to Detroit Golf Club for its fifth year June 27-July 2.
Golf fans can contribute directly to any of the 44 local nonprofits participating in Golf and Give by going to www.RocketMortgageClassic.com/golfandgive and clicking on “Purchase Tickets,” then entering the code unique to the organization they wish to support. Grounds tickets start at $65 for Thursday, June 29; $75 for Friday, June 30; and $85 each day for Saturday, July 1 and Sunday, July 2.
“We are excited to offer a fantastic new fundraising opportunity through Golf and Give this year,” said Jason Langwell, Executive Director of the Rocket Mortgage Classic. “This program makes it easy for local nonprofits to utilize the tournament’s platform to create awareness about what they are doing and ultimately direct donations to help fund their missions. We encourage fans to take advantage of this opportunity and support these terrific organizations when purchasing tickets.”
The Golf and Give program replaced the tournament’s previous Birdies for Charity program. As an incentive to help participating nonprofits raise more funds to support their missions, the organization that sells the most tickets will win autographed Rocket Mortgage Classic memorabilia. Additionally, the top five nonprofits on the leaderboard through June 16 will all earn two honorary observer positions for each competition day of the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic, which allow access to walk inside the ropes with select PGA TOUR player groups during tournament play.
“Rocket Mortgage is a For-More-Than-Profit organization, and we are always seeking new ways to partner with organizations in our hometown of Detroit and beyond,” said Bob Walters, CEO of Rocket Mortgage. “Through Golf and Give, the Rocket Mortgage Classic will continue being a powerful force for good and provide a new avenue for fans to support vital programming throughout the state of Michigan.”
One of the organizations that has been most successful in using the Rocket Mortgage Classic’s fundraising programs to support its mission is Christ Child Society of Detroit, which generated more than $10,000 last year through the tournament.
Christ Child Society of Detroit is a non-profit, multidenominational organization of volunteers who have been changing the lives of children in need across metro Detroit for more than a century. One of 45 chapters of the National Christ Child Society, the Detroit Chapter manages three arms of outreach that directly impact thousands of lives every year - the Layette House, Literacy Program and, unique to the Detroit Chapter, the Christ Child House – a residential treatment center for up to 31 boys, aged 5-16, who are victims of abuse and neglect.
In 2021, Christ Child Society of Detroit launched its largest fundraising campaign in program history to support the future of Christ Child House. The Capital Campaign for a Place Called Home will fund the construction of a new Christ Child House and allow more services, space and activities for the boys that live there.
“We are extremely appreciative of the Rocket Mortgage Classic and the opportunity to fundraise through Golf and Give,” said Maria Lessnau, Christ Child House Executive Director. “The program is easy to use, and the tournament’s platform really helps us raise awareness for our efforts to build a new home to support those in need. We are changing the trajectory for a lot of kids.”
While tickets for Thursday through Sunday’s competition rounds can be purchased through Golf and Give, the Rocket Mortgage Classic also provides a number of special offers throughout tournament week.
All kids 15 and under receive complimentary admission to the event when accompanied by a ticketed adult (up to four kids per adult) Thursday-Sunday. No ticket is required for kids to enter. Thanks to the return of Detroit Community Days, all fans will receive complimentary admission and parking on Tuesday, June 27 for the First Tee - Greater Detroit Youth Clinic and AREA 313 Celebrity Scramble, as well as on Wednesday, June 28 for the Delta Dental Pro-Am.
The Rocket Giving Fund – the nonprofit host organization of the Rocket Mortgage Classic – in partnership with title sponsor Rocket Mortgage, raised more than $1.57 million through the 2022 Rocket Mortgage Classic to support local nonprofits. In its first four years, the event has invested more than $6.8 million into nonprofit organizations, including more than $3.8 million through the Changing the Course initiative to end the digital divide in Detroit.
